Sixteen piece orchestra Manolito y su Trabuco is one of Cuba's greatest and best loved timba bands with dozen of international tours over the past 25 years.

An innovative group with a unique line-up. Based on the traditional charanga set up, characteristic with violin and flute, to which Manolito added drums, horns, keyboards. With three singers who all take solos a intense sound is created and make salseros all over the world dancing. Songs like ‘Marcando la distancia’, ‘Llego la música Cubana’, ‘Linda Melodia’, ‘Locos por mi Habana’ or ‘La Habana me llama’ are already part of Cuban music archive.

Born in Camaguey in 1961, Manuel Simonet learnt piano with the amateur artists movement. In early 1980ies he started playing piano professionally and in 1986 he became musical director for the well-known Maravillas de Florida orchestra.

1993 he created his own group, Manolito y su Trabuco. The term "trabuco" in Cuba means power – and the group lives up to its name. Dynamic, explosive performances that create immediate reactions from audience. In 1994, Mi Salsa, Cuba's most popular TV programme, hailed the group as the discovery of the year. The following year they produced their first record and embarked on their first international tour. Both were an instant success.

Till today 15 albums were produced including outstanding collaborations with Sting’s guitarist Dominic Miller or recent Two Beats One Soul project. Manolito y su Trabuco’s work were many times awarded. ASCAP Song of the Year or Gran Premio Cubadisco – the most important Cuban music prize.
